Greetings all. Just finished Life Miniatures 1/10th bust of Joachim Peiper. I did him up in acrylics, both Andrea and Vallejo. Perhaps not too visible in the pics, but the jacket and the bill of his cap were given a mix of acrylic medium and Future to give a leather like sheen. By all means look him over with an evil eye and let me know if there is anything I missed or could change.

That's some great painting Joe, the face and the leather look very well done. My only criticism is that your photos are not giving your painting efforts enough credit. Perhaps you could post some larger photos, sure would like to see all those excellent details a little better. Regards, SG;):)(y)(y)

You did a killer job on the painting part but the colours are off. The SS had a black leather and a black bill on there hat. Other then that I love what you did with the bust. By the way what did you think of the Andrea paints?

Hi Joe,
Lovely fresh skin tones that draws the eye straight in. Very well painted, love the attention to detail on things like the leather and binoculars.(y)
cheers

Thanks Rick! As for the photos, well I'm using my cell phone as that's all I have. I'll play around with it and if I can come up with some better picks I'll add them to this post.

Ah, you kinda lost me. The items you mentioned that should be black are indeed black. Perhaps due to lighting and the pics taken with a cell phone, those features appear much lighter. Keep in mind that the leather coat and the bill of the cap also have a sheen to them and are not dead flat. Therefore reflecting more light. Only the deepest folds and creases received a deep, dead black. The other surfaces have dark, varying shades of gray. I used several photos as reference where Piper is wearing this garb and there is some wear, tear and soiling visible, especially on his cap.

I used the Andrea Flesh and Black set which for me helps take out some of the guess work. So, yes, I like them. They are convenient. To me Andrea and Vallejo paints are same same. As far as their application and coverage, they are all very good. Some Andrea colors for some reason have a pleasant odor, while the Vallejo ones either don't smell or are a bit funky. Not that I spend a lot of time sniffing paint mind you. Some things you can't help but notice.

Thanks for checking Piper out and I value your comments (y)!

Your new photos look great Joe. Did you use the Andrea black set for the leather??? Whatever combo you used, you really achieved the worn look you were after. Excellent effect. Regards, SG:)(y)(y)
