I guess in this case its because he's from ann"eastern woodland" tribe. Had he been lakota sioux or comanche etc I'd have gone a different way probably.
Anyway, the base is real twigs repainted then covered in sponge flock mixed with paint to make the moss. Small amounts of static grass and tufts with blossfrom mininatur (yyou can get these from modeldisplayproducts.co.uk, they're ace), then a liberal covering of good old kitchen herbs #oldschool.
Thanks for the kind words!

Where else would you find NE Woodland Indians? I am working on a French and Indian project and I can't imagine them anywhere else. Nice job on the whole scene. That moss is a nice touch.

The clue's in the name eh? Lol! Though, given that the iroqois tribes weresedentary farmers, there's plenty of scope for arable land. Also I'm reading a book of N.american native myths at the moment and that mentions the iroqois sending raiding parties to the cherokee and being away for 2years or more, that's a long, long way.
I lied about the moss earlier. It's one third each paint, flock and watered down pva.
