I like the Frenchman. But what is is it with French medals. Every other coutry lines them up all nice and straight but French medals get hung all over, like Christmas tree ornaments :)

When you see the lenght of the pin, you understand it's not possible to put them on the same line level

For people how doesn't know , how is Guynemer, he was for the French famous as all other French Airmen like Fonck, Navarre, Madon, Nungesser, Mermoz, Saint-Exupéry, perhaps, you do not know this men.
Georges Guynemer was second in the WWI French Ace list (600 missions/ 54 victories confirmed and 30 unconfirmed)
The French Air Force Flying School in Salon de Provence (recommended for all people visiting France, for the Town, the wine and the museum de l'Emperi-the best first Empire museum) made his the slogan of G.Guynemer " Faire Face" ("Make Face"), and The Air Forces evokes its memory every September 11th (day of his death in 1917) by a parade bases on its bases among 2 wear its name, Paris (General Staff) and Dijon.
More on wikipedia...
There's not only Richtofen, Voss or Goring in WWI.
Another pictures of this pilot, named by the other pilot and the "poilus", the Angel.

A little bit it's a pity that the figurine forgets the history....

Hi Colin, i understand, but keep in mind that's before The 2 Napoleon, the medal in the French Army were only for high Rang Officer and noblemen.
Also, at the beginning of the war, the military decoration you could won were only legion of Honour and Military Medal.
There's no a real tradition like in the English Army (i'm also a Medal collector-exclusively British);
Regards
Luc
And do not forget the Napoleon I words (sorry it's cannot be translating".
"Donnez leur une breloque, et ils se feront tuer pour vous!"

That makes sense as the style of arrangement is more similar to that seen on Napoleonic generals' habits - and these were primarily orders rather than medals.

Thanks Luc

I'm surprised no one's mentioned it yet, but Capitaine Guynemer's wearing some serious boots! Those must have taken some time to lace and to clean!
