Gassed was based on two images - the wartime photo of British 55th infantry division gas casualties and John Singer Sargent's painting of the same name. I had no intention to try to duplicate either but rather intended an homage to both classic WW1 images. The different heights and body builds in the 8 casualties was intentional and mirrored the photo of the wounded 55th soldiers. The sculpting started (part-time) in Spring 2010 and the painting wasn't completed until fall 2014. Painted beautifully and with a great deal of patience and devotion by my friend Charlie Duckworth.
This piece was sold to a collector in 2015.
