Hi everyone

After the sad loss of Geoff Charman it has been suggested we run a award in his memory

1. My thoughts would be as he painted busts do do a thing for busts

2. Think there's enough going on with FOTM as well as Vignette & Diorama comps to run monthly

3. I reckon a annual prize might be a good idea with the comp starting running on the date of Geoffs death to remember him

4. We could run it till June next year from now with a open thread for entries throughout the year

5. I would take responsibility

5. I want to talk to speak to Helen his wife about this a little while after the funeral before going ahead announcing fully

PLEASE give your thoughts either here or if you prefer by PM

Thank you

Hi folks

I have been had a PM with a really good suggestion

We have sadly lost other members in the past as well

So the suggestion is

" ROLL OF HONOUR " thread with the departed name, user name and avatar along with one photo of an example of their work or a sentence describing their contribution to PF

Like that idea Kev. (y)

Hi everyone

Thanks for comments ...this is something we should do for sure IMO ...a ROLL OF HONOUR highlighted unfortunately by the recent passing of Geoff Charman

Just a question do we say just PF members or include others in the hobby no longer at their bench ?

This is a difficult one. Due to professional painters, sculpters and manufacturers having a higher profile they would soon overwhelm the list. That said, the vast proportion of ' rank and file' members who pass would not be reported unless they were personally known by others on the forum. Many quite prolific posters have disappeared but we don't know the reason why.

I would say yes, but would inclusion be retrospective?

Hi Bill

Thanks for comments , good points and a difficult one like you said , thinking again it's best IMO at the moment to just keep it to PF members

I support the idea of a Roll of Honour of PF members only. It is they who support and contribute to this forum - they make it possible - and it would be a fine and easily accessed tribute to those members who have passed away. We won't know all who pass away, especially those from Down Under as we are such a small and scattered group, but at least those known to the large and prolific PF modelling community in the UK, Europe and the USA will be recorded. This in itself will be a fine legacy of Geoff's.

Regards
Chris

Geoff Charman Memorial Award: Nice idea. Gets my vote.

pF Roll of Honour: I'm all for it. Surprised it's not been done before. In addition to Geoff, two more very quickly off the top of my head:

Eddy Vandersteen ("dArtagnan") - died early 2019

Mark Pearson ("Tubby-Nuts2") - died early 2019

I feel sure that there are more, and I will probably kick myself for not remembering them also.

Let's get a list together.

Hi Steve

We decided not to do a actual award but will be setting up a Roll of Honour part/forum where all can post details

Stay tuned

This place is no different to any other online forum Bill, people stop posting for all sorts of reasons (time constraints due to family or work / loss of interest in the hobby/ fallings-out with other members / jump ship to another forum they like more / plain old just can't be bothered any more). I know for a fact that some now just post on Facebook, for example.

Some might well have died but in many cases we will probably never know whether those "lapsed" members have passed on or just moved on. So we can only do what we can do with whatever information we have collectively.

I would say yes, but would inclusion be retrospective?

No reason why it couldn't / shouldn't be.

It's a lovely touch to keep alive the memory of those who we've come across in the hobby. Some I've met in person, others not. Doesn't matter as they all left their mark. It's a lovely gesture.

Hi everyone

Thanks again for replies ...yes it should include retrospective PF members of course

Once this is set up all are welcome to add .......suggest include avatar or a picture plus a picture of 1 of their models

As BP rightly says it matters not that if you have met them or not they all have left their mark on us and the hobby
