in 1943 about 1500 Cossacks coming from the prison camps of the axis were recruited in the cavalry of the 8th army of the Italian army for light cavalry missions. They wore a mixture of Italian and traditional Cossack cavalry clothing and wore a badge in the colors of Tsarist Russia.
