WIP 1/10 bust Stormtrooper

hello,
I stared with two tings that are new to me 1st oil paint and a bust at 1/10
and I have already made beginners mistakes ( paint directly on a glass plate,with thinner for oil etc...
.

)
I do have a arcrylics underlay .
I forgot to put in more dark shadow in it ( see photos) and a question for those who may have already
done a mat clear coat over oil , and continue with arcrylics? ( afraid of oil

) or everything with oil
anyway?

No need to be afraid of the oils, you're blending quite well from what I see. Yes, dust can be a killer when oils are setting up. I always try to blow the dust specks off or remove them with a paint thinner dampened brush. A bit hard to see, blurred pic, but it looks like the eyes are really well done. Keep rolling along, standing by for more.

If you have any litre or half litre lemonade or water bottles cut them off at the neck and use the rest to act as a temporary cover for your figures as they dry off.

Remember of course to down the bottles contents before hand...lol

Nothing wrong with the work so far, just need to be bold with lights and shadows. Check out pictures of completed busts on the show pictorial reviews on pf.

First of all I would like to thank you all for the tips and input gentlemen !
I 'm going to do something with it. to keep things going I have already started with
the second head of the bust, and I think this one is going a little better (still too dark ?)

Not necessarily dark, but as you review life itself, you're going to notice the soft transition from shadows to highlights as they occur naturally. This is a good second run, keep rollin.

This is only a matter of practice, practice, and more practice.

Yes, it’s two dimensional, but the concept is exactly the same in oils in 3D. Daria has numerous useful vids you can draw from.

One of the things I tend to do is wait for my initial effort to dry and then go back and add any additional highlights and shadows as needed. Oils can easily be applied over a dried base then blended out with a dry brush until you get the amount of highlight or shadow you want. Its one of the great advantages of oils over faster drying mediums. Oils also tend to become more distinct as they dry, so you get a better grasp of the overall look.It also helps you avoid "making mud" by over blending wet color coats.

well ladies and gentlemen,
it's been 3 months since I started with this bust (with oil) and I don't think it's bad! for the first time

it's not quite finished yet, I think a few more weeks and then it really finished....and I must say painting a bust (1/10 or 1/9) is quite fun!!
And the tips & tricks from last time also contributed (thanks again guys)

Google Milan dufek on utube. Pick one of his face painting videos and follow the mixes and techniques....l have found it very helpful although not having an airbrush l brush paint the base acrylics.
