Hi all,
This non descript item is for me a different approach
to creating a bust.
Previously I used to attempt to sculpt the head with the intention
of adding it to the shoulders, chest etc.

After trawling around on the garage kit sites I got this idea.
A piece of wire is bent to shape, then covered with tin foil, held in place
with white Milliput.

This is probably not new to some experienced sculptors
but its pretty revolutionary to me. I will post more as I progress
through, the size is approx 1/9

will post again as it takes shape

Hi Anders,

I am working towards a female warrior possibly Boudicca
For reference I am using a pic of Alex Kingston the actress
who played her in that unfortunate dare I say crap television
adaptation earlier this year.

I will post some more in progress pics soon

Frank

Here's Alex

Frank,

Boudicca is one of my (all too many) favourite subjects.

Apart from Alex, here's another modern version of Mrs. B: Lucy Lawless in Discovery Channel's Warrior Women. Note brave attempt at woad body paint and impressive gold torc.

Can't wait to see YOUR interpretation of her. ;)

This might give you a choice of 2 to pick from
I cropped and enlarged it.

I found these other pics of Alex as Boudicca.

I don't know about the film but the pictures look rather convincing (to me anyway). Note the tattoos/paintings on her throat.

And as a bonus, an early ancestor of Spike's (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Q. :)

Hi Quang,
This is where I am at the moment, to get
this far she has had three noses two mouths
and I fully expect to do the the eyes at least
three times to get the look I want

Having said that I am enjoying working on this piece.
I value any comments or critique's
in order to improve

Thanks again for the pics, I think once I get the eyes in I can
rework the expression to make her look agressive.

Hey Frank,

Looks pretty good so far, the nose looks great! The jaw seams a little to narrow compared to the rest of the face, but since it is not finished yet, this may very well be fixed in your next step.

Hi Anders,
Appreciate the observation, made me look more closely
at that jaw line. I can see that it needs a rework, also I have got the neck
all wrong, a certain amount of hacking and chopping is called for.

This sculpting thing is a brutal business but enjoyable none the less.

Keep any comments coming as I really want to make a good job
of this.

Thanks again, Frank

Looks good so far, Frank. (y)

I feel that tilting the torso a little forward would compensate the 'hollow chest look' which plagues so many busts and would also add a dynamic touch to the composition.

IMHO of course.

Hi Quang,
I have since removed the head I intend to set it on a bit further forward
in the leaning position you indicate. Looking it over I realized that certain aspects were sculpted from what I thought I knew, rather than what my reference material showed
I will post again when I have corrected

I am still enjoying this sculpt and as Boudicca is one of my favourites
I feel I have to do her justice.

Thanks for all your help

Frank

Hi Frank, I would add a slight volume to the sides of forehead, and in the neck... Outside that, I think that the figure goes very well.
I will follow the progresses...

Greetings.

Alex.
