I would like to make the inside of a cape look like satin. It is painted in oils but I want a little more sheen. I was thinking of glazing with liquin or I have heard applying Dorland’s wax maybe good for this as well. Any suggestions about these two mediums and what I am after?

Don't know if this is the effect you're looking for but there's a line of acrylic paints named Aileen's that comes in pearl colors. I found it at a local 'Joann's Fabrics'. It doesn't go on shiny but instead is vaguely pearlescent, almost like the inside of a clam or a seashell. I have a bottle of 'white pearl' & it actually is a neat little effect but I can't remember the last time I used it.

Try to add some liquin to the colour you use, not much, just a bit, it will add some sheen to the colour, do test try it, perhaps on some older figure, to test how much will fit your requirement

I'm afraid that Dorland's wax will give you a flat finish, not a satin finish. If the area is already painted in final form, you can use Liquin to create a satin finish. I would mix one part Liquin with two parts of thinner and apply. After it dries, see if the result is what you want. If not, repeat this application until you get the satin finish you desire. By diluting the Liquin and using multiple coats, you will avoid getting too shiny a finish first time out. Of course you can add the Liquin to your paint, as mentioned above, if the area is not in final form, but I've always had trouble knowing how much to add. If you take this approach, DO try it on a practice piece first and see how it dries.

Good luck.
