He's already looking good. It's actually good to see him come from just a bit of super sculpey in a box to this.
Just out of curosity, would you say it's easier or harder to paint him since you made it?

Hi Tim, Mark & Daniel,
Another day and another step forwards for my Monash bust.
Tonight I've been working on the face and doing some highlighting on the uniform. It's still not blended properly but I'm getting there bit by bit. I've used oils on the facial highlights just to give it a bit of sheen and to smooth out the colours.
In answer to your question Daniel, I think its harder to paint something I sculpted myself, as I have no one else to blame if it all goes pear shaped. Having said that, it's definitely more rewarding and enjoyable to paint something you sculpted yourself.

Almost finished
Hi guys,
Almost finished now.
I've painted the tunic khaki, with a mix of Olive Green, Burnt Sienna and Golden Oche oils, to give it a smoother finish. Just a few more final touches to be done and my first bust is finished.

Hi Dan & Daniel,
Thank you for your very kind comments. It's been a wonderful experience to step out of my comfort zone and try something new, after 35 years of painting other people's sculpts. Nice to know I can still surprise and challenge myself after so long.
Just a little bit more to do on Monash and he'll be assuming command of my display cabinet.

Are these your last pics?
Sounds like the last post, if I can put it that way,you know what I mean.
Before you finish up can I suggest the painting of a bit of stubble 'shadow' at the back of the short back and sides.

G'day Mark,
Just a few more finishing touches to add before I declare him "finished".
One of the areas I need to tidy up is the hair line on the back of his neck, so I'll make sure to add some stubble shadow.
I'm planning my next sculpting project now, this time I'll try a full figure.

Wow, I can't wait to see the next one. I'm still working on my german knight. Im just having a little trouble with the blending on his cloths. Could you suggest anything for a little bit of help?

Finished - Final Pics

After 4 weeks of pretty intense sculpting and painting, I've finished my first bust.

Wow, A month and he's done. Great work. I might be able to one day finish a figure that quick.
I don't know if this is the picture or not but the strap running accross his back looks white in a section of it.

Daniel, it's turned out much better than I expected, and certainly a huge improvement on my first effort which you saw at WASMEx. The white on the strap on his back is actually shine from the gloss I added to simulate highly polished leather.
Mark, thanks so much for your continuing encouragement throughout my sculpting adventures so far. As you know I'm just making it up as I go along and having huge fun along the way.
I haven't settled on a specific idea yet but my next sculpt is likely to be a full figure, probably 120mm, of an Aussie digger in France during WW1.
I've attached a couple of shots of a cartoon depicting a couple of Digger's on leave in London bemoaning the lack of verandah posts to lean against. I like the guy on the right, he has a typically Aussie look about him, and his hands are in his pockets, so I don't have to sculpt them.
I also have the Compassion vignette by Mark Ricketts which I thinking of converting to ANZAC's at Poziers. Toomany choices and not enough time

Very nice. It's going to be an enjoyment of how you do it again. Just on a note about my figure on how he's going (just telling ya' before i see you in a couple weeks at the meeting). I spoke to Richard in the club about doing leather and I asked him on how he does it and he said to do a base coat in acrylics and do the rest in oils. I just want to have a go at them so heres my chance
