I decided I needed a little larger base. So here is the fall mounted on its permanent home. I also made the executive decision to go with a frozen fall.... So here are some pics of the icicles too.
For this project its fishing line and a hot glue gun. I will check out the craft store in attempt to find clearer glue. I can't find/locate the large glue gun which I have clear sticks, I'm having to usie my daughters craft gun(smaller) which has milky glue sticks??

Hi,
I'm new one here, been lurking. My fig painting skills next to zero so I'm trying to learn something here
David, your fig and idea for base looks great. Only thing strikes me, are icicles? They should be straight, not curved like now. Those look excellent in color and opacity(correct word?)

Your right the use of the fishing string as a foundation can pose a few issues. I solved(attempted to) the issue two ways 1st boiling strands of string and some manipulation. This still didn't solve the issue for strands longer than 3 inches, so I heated stands over a candle while stretching taut.
One benefit of working with the medium of hot glue, its like working with Velcro.....peal off and reattach
The next step would be adding snow, my method is microballoons and white glue.

I jumped from the cliff.... all in at this point. I went ahead with the attempt to add a Scots tree.
I started with a dead branch from a bush in the yard, will prune as I go along. Again mounting was quite simple when using a hot glue gun, tack in place with glue then molded some putty along the base. Then I added a root system from the excess foliage with super glue. At this point I also tacked various points of contact with the cliff with super glue. When dried I am able to hold the whole model by the trunk alone.
I don't have any Scots trees or pines for that mater local to me hear in Socal(Corona). Went ahead and surveyed the yard again and came up with two possible means for foliage. One is an evergreen bonsai tree and a Juniper bush, For this project I went with the Juniper bush.

Although I'm suprized how well the tree came out(for me) not to sure how well it resembles a Scot tree. Any suggestions on how to make pine needles on a mini tree?
Still a work in progress as I have to mix up more snow(painting of tree and leaves after they were mounted was another error on my part). Only the front of the tree is done, I'm afraid if I do the back side of the tree it will really stray away from attended goal?? Any help/suggestions.....Pleeze.

Hi David I think the tree looks fine, just a dusting of snow would finish it off.Well done on attempting this complex groundwork.Looking forward to seeing this project finished.

The morning after.... In the frenzy of last evening I didn't give a transition point from Juniper bush to tree, as I used all examples by picture time. So here are the Juniper that should be painted before (attaching a dozen or so). Also I would recommend snipping each branch individually. various different size gives added effect vs one cookie cutter size.
With the 2nd pic you notice the back side of tree is completely void of foliage as time ran out along with my back at @ the witching hr of 1:30am. This leaves(pun) me with three choices. 1 fill out the rest of the tree...2 Do nothing leave alone..3 Trim up/off the bare foliage ....Or I could even trim up existing foliage the add to the bare backside.??
