Hi guys,

Inspired by my recent visit to Rome, I've chosen to do this beautiful 54mm Aquilifer (Eagle Bearer) from Icon Miniatures. I'm working on the shield at the moment and will try some of Tommi Worton's shield stencils for the first time. Still a lot of work to do, but I thought I'd share these progress pics with you all. As always, I welcome any constructive comments, criticism or suggestions.

Thanks Carl, its oils over acrylics mate.

Thanks Hardy, it is different to work in 54mm after doing so many large scale figures, but I enjoy the challenge. Thanks god for the magnifier!!

Beautiful so far Tony & I concur with you re Thank God for the magnifier :D

Keep safe mate..........

Ray ;)

Hi Tony

great paintjob you are doing there!

... but what I like to ask you concerns your method of temporarily fixing the figure to the work base: What is the trick here?
Stencils for Roman shields? Sounds almost too good to be true! Where can I get them?

Andreas

Thanks Ray, Marc, Andreas, Dave, and Marcel,

Andreas, I've drilled a hole up through his foot and attached him to the painting base with a piece of brass rod, and used blu tak to stop him wobbling around. Not just stencils for Roman shields but heraldry for Knights etc too. The stencils are produced by Tommi Worton and I'm sure he can tell you where they are available for purchase. I bought mine from Tommi personally at Euro Militaire where he was working behind Steve Kirtley's stand, so I would start with SK Miniatures.

Hi Tony, the pics are a little bit small .. but it looks a very beautiful start , the lion fur is very well done .. i am curious to see the shield when finished with the stencils from Tommi

Stefano

Hello Tony,
Thanks for sharing this,
Great start, I'm following your steps.
Hope you are enjoying this figure my friend.

Alex.

Thank you my friends.

Stefano, I'm looking forward to seeing how the stencils work too.

Mitsutaka, I still have much work to do on this figure and I'm trying to be patient.

Alex, I'm really enjoying this figure mate, and I'm looking forward to doing the Macedonian General too. The quality of the sculpting and casting is superb. I'll post some more pics in a few days.

Nice stuff Tony I have one also in 54mm but in a different pose and have been deciding when to get back to it, nice colouring alround and wil be great to see the completed. RobH.:)

Thanks Mark & Rob, I'm glad you like it so far.

I've attached a few more WIP pics to show you where I'm up to.

The shield is the next challenge.
