Greetings,
here,s a start on a project that will be fairly involved. It not only has a violin but also a weapon slung from the shoulder of our bust.
Whats needed here is to call on the model railroad guys locally who know who to see about castings particularly lost wax .The bow of the violin will be cast in brass/bronze because of its fragility and thiness. The image shows the fret where the bow is set for casting.
The Violin also took its time ,made from a 2.5 thick ali flat bar cut and filed to shape.A laminate of plasticard to create the lip or edge of the body.A layer of magicsculp to give the contour needed for top and bottom. The spiral has been carved but still needs finishing and a couple of the other pieces to add too.
The instrument will need more work before the hands and bust can be sculpted. The violin will need to be fixed at the shoulder before working on the hands begin. Why a Violinist you say, well my youngest daughter learns this instrument so its an ideal topic in a way.
comments welcome
Andy

Andy

great. Something really different. And I fear you are my "Lieblings"-Sculptor and it is very expensive for me to know you ;) :D

Hi Andy,

Definately Russian, but I would go for Autumn/winter, Probably greatcoat opened up to give depth and a nice fur hat/papascha?

Great idea, wish I could sculpt full time.

Greetings,
Some more work on the violin and a start on the left hand. The forearm looks like it has a twist but will still need more work. The fingers have the basic shape and will be trimmed down to look a little more leaner.comments welcome.

Morning Andy....
love this subject brother, weather or not he becomes a military subject of the day or perhaps a 17 centry in lace, huge cuffs and a wig!!!!.l do like him very much....

good stuff bro..phil.

Phil,Dan Marc and Pedro,
Thanks for the comments. There is still much to do and there is the sequence to work on .once the bow is back from casting the right hand can be started.but the bridge in the violin must be done first in order to continue.
Andy

Greetings,
The right hand has been worked and a basic piece of rod to give the idea of the bow.The fingers on the right hand have to be in the correct position to hold the bow so some rework has been done adjusting fingers.comments welcome.

Excellent work Andy, this will be a winner regardless of which uniform he'll be wearing ' though I prefer a Russian or soviet!

BTW the most popular instrument in the Red Army was the accordeon, don't know if you fancy sculpting that ;);)

Keep tempting us!

regards,

the red dragon
