Jim I wish my painting sucked as much as yours , after years of painting I still can't reach this level you have but if you really want to beat yourself up over this then I think the trousers are a bit too dark overall a bit more light blue on the main areas would help .

Well? What do I say to all of the comments? One word comes to mind...WOW! You guys, as always, have inspired me to keep painting this, as well as other figures.

It's hard to put into words how nice it is to return to painting and hear these words of encouragement. Had a long talk with Guy and rather than strip the figure (which was my normal practise) I will finish this figure and apply the lessons learned on the next figure. Speaking og the figure.. It's an Andrea figure and it's 54mm. Also, it's from the 7th Cavalry line.

I will keep you all updated as I paint more.

I agree with you on the trousers. At first, when I painted them, they were a light, faded color. Looked like my favorite pair of jeans actually :lol:. While they didn't look too bad, when combined with the white canvas reinforcement and the light, worn, grey shirt, they jus didn't fit to my eyes. So I repainted them and this is the color you see now. I'm still not happy with the result but oh well, lessons will be applied to my next figure.

Funny you asked that. Yes, they do think it's cool and it's hard enough to paint in the barracks but then you add the bystanders and it gets even harder. No big issues really as they are innocent enough in their questions. People can't believe that we paint our figures to so much detail! Then I tell them and show them websites like pF and they're totally amazed. One comment I heard a few times was "You mean there's more people who paint these things too? And there's ACTUALLY a website for you guys? WOW!"

No lie, that's actually true. Ahhhhhh the memories we will have when we're older.......wait! We ARE older!

Ok, I have been making some progress but it seems the more progress I make, the more I screw up!

But, that's always been the case with me.

My getting to know an old friend is coming along nicely. An old friend being Mr. Brush. I still think I and the figure both suck! But that's just me. It's the way I have always been and, probably, always will be. It's not that I'm looking for a pat on the back. It's just that I see all of your guys' work and all I can say is wow. Then I look at mine and all I can say is "Jim? You suck!".

Regardless, here is my progress so far. The under shirt, face and bed roll are only base coated. I like to "get a feel" for what it's going to look like once it's finished.

As always, your critiques and comments are always welcome.

OK, I found something Im worse at than painting....photography! Give me a little while. I'll work it out. The figure is "nearly" done. Still have to do the groundwork. For that I still need to get a few supplies. No rush. I'm enjoying taking my time. I still have numerous little things left to fix. My biggest problem with fixing the little things is after I'm done, I have even more mistakes to fix. It's been a fun figure to paint. I'm learning more and remembering more as I go.

Yep, you're definitely being too hard on yourself Jim. Lovely looking results here. This is the second really nice version of this guy I've seen recently. You've got me contemplating stripping mine down and starting over or buying another one outright. Great work!

OK, not trying to drive the post count up here, but I'd like your opinions on the different photography. I still have a LONG ways to go for taking decent pictures but all things with time.... At least the colors are finally apearing in the pictures close to what they actually are!

This is really looking great! I hadn't picked up a brush since I was a kid and started back just months ago. I certainly wish I was painting on your level, though I have a ways to go. I gave up on stripping my figures and was determined to completely finish them. I do feel a since of accomplishment now when I compare my mini's and see improvement, even if it's minuscule.

Looking good all round Jim, better than I could do after such a long lay off. Detail and shading looks good from what I can see and the photos look OK.
