I think, some of you will know the black/white film "All quiet at the western front". Near the end of the film Paul Bäumer see a butterfly and as he try to reach him he is shoot.

I want to build the scene just in that moment as he sees the butterfly and try to reach him.

So because I am not the great sculptor I bought some pieces from Jon Smith. The scale is 120mm but I neat such great figures because in other cases nobody would see the butterfly.

Here you can see the first tries. The last pictures showing the real base and the sand bag position. Jon Smith has send my some sand bags and a part of a trench. And as always they were great (y)

Great job so far Ulrich. I think you have really captured the scene. The book (more than the movie(s)) hs gven me several ideas I just have to have the time. ;)

Great idea and a brilliant base.....I suppose will be difficult to bring the figure to focus with that pose  and that the base will take central stage....but will keep an eye on this and see how you resolved it....thanks

Thank you very much. Much appreciated

Mario: Yes that will be a problem. And it could be that you can see from behind only the figure and the sand bags but looking through the hole you will see the butterfly. And from all other sides you can see always the butterfly, the figure and the sandbags.

I will choose a brimstone as butterfly because that means that the butterfly can have a seize from nearly 7 mm and because it is yellow you will see him clearly on the brown ground.

I know that in the film Bäumer sees not a brimstone, but for my scene a conspicuous butterfly would be better.

The base is nearly done and I have painted the butterfly. But my camera had some problems to make a good photo of the butterfly. Perhaps I have a better chance after glue the butterfly on the base

I love the original "All Quiet On The Western Front" it is a great film and follows the book pretty closely. I read the book when I was 17 not because it was assigned to me, but because I wanted to read it. It affected me deeply. I look forward to seeing this come together.

Look really good Ulrich.
The groundwork is especially good, did you make the sandbags from scratch
and if so how did you get the texture.

Great idea, look forward to the finnish.
