This is from a period I am especially fond of-lovely piece but I'm not sure about the position of the rear legs on the horse. I assume he is static and pawing the ground...what do the equestrian experts think?

Keith

That is something original. I like it because of its unusual subject. Just like Keith I am not sure about the horses rear legs. Any advice here?
I would not mind to learn something about this regiment as well. Painting options, some history. Any input from poeple that are in the subject would be much appreciate it.

I asked the Amazone here in the hospital about the back legs position.
Answer: The horse stands somewhat strecht out, what is not a relaxed position.
It is not unnatural, horses stand this way to release the pressure on the hooves, when they are in pain there. Usual after a very long ride it is not uncommon.

So in my opinion there is nothing wrong with the position of the rear legs.

Very nice figure, and unusual subject for sure! I also had second thoughts about the rear legs positions, but marc already explained that is normal, so it is a nice buy.
Just a question, this horse has a very short tail and neck hair, is typical of russian horses??
