Hey Tony - GREAT start on a impressive bust!! Maybe you can help me - I have tried emailing Naked Army @ {orders @ naked army.co] and my emails keep coming up invalid email address - do you have any contact info for them you could share?? That US Marine honor guard looks awesome!! Sure would be a big help - by the way I'm in the US. Thanks, Dave

Hi Wayne, feel free to ask any questions when they come up. Don't wait until this is finished because you'll forget your question and I'll forget the answer:p

Hi Jimmy, the flesh showing through the holes in the scrim bandana does look a bit odd at the moment, but that's because I haven't done a wash yet. I'm hoping that will flatten out the colours. The ARVN backpack will be painted a faded US Olive Green and then camouflaged with black and green and red brown colours.

Hi Brian, actually it wasn't a s bad to paint as you might think. The hard part was getting started. I spent a few nights staring at the base coat of the shirt before I could bring myself to start outlining the pattern, but once I committed to it, it just flowed. Luckily I had some very good reference materials, including a pair of ERDL trousers loaned to my by a friend.

Hi Jeff, thanks for your comments mate.

Hi Francky, thanks mate. It's a pity the face will soon be obscured by dirt and camo

Hi Ben, thanks mate. As you know this is a big bust with loads of detail and everything is visible, no matter how small. I'm looking forward to showing this to you in the flesh.

G'day Chris, I've been expecting you to chirp away on this thread mate. I hope you're doing well. I have to disagree. He looks far too handsome and intelligent to be a Kiwi. Definitely an Aussie :ROFLMAO:

Hi Dave, I've sent you a PM with some of the contact details for Naked Army. Hopefully you'll have more luck getting in touch with them this time. The email address you've been using is not correct. Try using [email protected] The US Marine Honour Guard figure (and bust) would be a great centrepiece to any modellers collection. Good luck with it.

Hey Tony,
First of all let me thank you for showing your progress on this piece, I missed the product review on the forums and Jimmy S was kind enough to direct me.Apparently the quality is good.
The only question I have left is regarding the 1/6 scale.Only because some companys don't adhere to their product description regarding size.
IE: ...1/10.....1/9....200mm...Only know this from experience as I mostly do busts.
So that being said and not familiar with Naked Army and their products;.....Could you take a pair of dividers, calipers or whatever and let me know the ''Head Length" so I can scale and know what I'm getting...Just not familiar with that scale.
Really do like what I'm seeing on their site.I'm thinking you might deserve a kick back.
Best Regards and keep up the good work...................Wayne

More WIP pics. Sorry the images are so dark.

Still filling in the blank areas and making slow steps forward. No weathering done yet.

Awesome, Tony, he's coming together beautifully. The camo is great, and that face outstanding.
Times like this I miss HMFS and seeing your work up close each month. Brilliant painting, mate!

That looks brilliant Tony,

I love your ERDL pattern camo style. All green colors are nearly a perfect score. The face looks really realistic and it´s a shame the great paintwork will be coverd by camo ;-). With the weathering it will be an Winner on all competitions. This one would be nice in 1/35. I think i will convert an Bravo-6 SASR Figure to get an similar looking 1/35 scale Figure.

Great work Tony and thanks for sharing

Hi Nick,

Thanks again for your comments mate. I miss our monthly bullshit sessions at HMFS and the chance to see what each other are working on. pF is now our virtual figure modelling club. We need to organise a session at my place soon.

Hi Stefan, thanks again for your comments and your positive feedback. I've actually painted one of the Bravo 6 Australian SAS figures a few years ago in a similar style as you mentioned. I painted the shirt in tiger stripe cam and the trousers in ERDL. Not easy in 1/35th scale. I much prefer these large scale figures and busts. Sorry about the crappy pic

Hi guys,

I'm slowly plugging away at this bust and thought I'd show you the latest WIP pics.

Now that the ERDL cam is painted, I've turned my attention to the webbing. In particular the ARVN backpack and the ammo pouches and webbing.

SAS typically spray or brush painted camouflage patterns onto their personal gear (including their weapons) to make themselves even more camouflaged, particularly as they were trained to remain hidden and operate unseen by their enemies.

I still haven't started weathering the uniform, which is why he still looks so clean and neat. I can assure you he wont look like that next time you see him.
