Looking great so far Richie - I particularly like the fallen horse, you have remodelled the pose very convincingly.

On a side note about the lancers being anachronistic - in the film Zulu Dawn the lancers feature quite prominently in some of the pre battle scenes. Should they not have been in the movie then?

Also I can never remember whether it was Melville or Coghill who is wearing the blue Officers Patrol Jacket. Do you know? I have often thought it was unfortunate that they had such similar sounding names and died together which made it hard to distinguish one from the other over the years.

Cheers
Mat

Hi Mat,
As Bob rightly said the 17th Lancer's were sent to Natal after the first invasion. The scene you recollect with the Lancer's should have been the Natal Native contingent commanded by Commandant "Maori Brown" & Lieutenant Henry Hartford, they went to punish Chief Sikhayo an ally of Cetshwayo. Sikhayo was with his friend the king at the time of the invasion, but they burnt his kraal and killed his son.
I would say it was possibly Coghill in the patrol jacket. It has always been surmised that Pulliene gave Melvill the colours but from memory I recollect that no one actually witnessed this. A theory was he got the colours to try and rally the troops and when he saw it was too late fled across country. Coghill did not set off with either but met up later on, on the trail.
cheers
Richie

Hi Huw,
Thanks mate, and glad you are along for the ride on this one.

Hi Steve,
How are you my mate and thanks for dropping in. Are you going to pop down to Telford next month and meet up? I have roughly jointed up the horse with milliput, it's laying a lot better now on the ground and the legs are resting on one another. Still quite a few bits to do on this one including some repairs and a lot of clean up.

Hi Chris,
Thanks mate, I thought you might like this one being a fan of the period. I suppose I have been quite busy over the last few weeks, but prior to this I had done nothing in over 6 months.
cheers
Richie

Hi Joe,
Thanks mate and thanks for dropping in.(y)

Hi All,
I've had limited time of late but managed to get a few hours in. I have got the dead horse about 85% done. I have the basis of the standing officer there and I have started work on the Lancer and horse. I also decided to use the torso off Beneito's - Last Stand of the Prince Imperial. Thank you Jose my friend. I decided to use this as the braiding on the patrol jacket is just outstanding in 54mm and something I could not replicate in this scale.
A long way to go but it's moving again.
cheers
Richie
