I am starting a new bust about a student of the early XXth Century. You can see old pictures of the topic on the background. "Mensur" was a strong tradition in the German War school, a duel strictly regulated épée / rapier fight between two male members of different fraternities with sharp weapons. The result was a scarface, reason why many officers during WWI and WWII had scars.
I start with a wood base, a twisted metal wire and synthetic clay. Not much idea of the scale, around (12 cm high)

Since a few days I have learnt so much from the articles and forum posts from you all that I can now work differently for the next busts. This website is so great !

Here are 2 récent photos of the bust with a close view on the metal and leather mask with a first background color

I have found here some very nice photo of student dressed for mensur duel, some with very impressive recent scars. This academic duel was a military tradition for the young student in school.
