Hi Dan, some of these images are Gordon Highlanders, the ones with the black/green square on the Glengarry. The Balmoral and the gas sentry aren't Argyll but I'm not sure what they are. This might lead to some confusion.
Thanks,
Scotty.

My most beloved regiment, the 93rd. Many of my ancestors served in the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders, before they were amalgamated with the 91st. Sadly they are all but gone with the RRS nonsense.

haven't been on here in a long time.

But the pub the Highlanders are outside is actually my local!

I've discovered that at the start of WW1, the Highland Division was billeted in Bedford for a few months.
A town of about 40000 had 22000 Highlanders arrive, and soldiers were billeted in local houses. I can't confirm it, but my own house may well have had some Scots boarding there, as it was built in 1910 and is about 300 yards from the pub.

Sadly, even before getting to France, a number of the highland died after catching diseases they had never been exposed to in Scotland! They were buried in Bedford
