Sold by "Semper Fidelis Miniaturas", sculpted by Antonio Messeguer. Scale 75mm.
Painted with acrylics and oils.

The cross is scratchbuild as is the glass vase with the flower and the bird.
Jesus was a cheap buy in the internet, repainted to make him look like weathered wood

Unfortunately the figur had some damages at the collar, I had to rebuild the collar completely with Milliput.
I liked the thoughtful expression of the soldier.

Maybe he was to thank the lord for surviving in battle or he took a moment to commemorate a fallen comrade... whatever you want to see in this little scene.

I'd have perhaps gone for a slightly narrower base and brought the two main elements a bit closer together to make it all a tad more compact/intense, as that space at back right seems to be a little bit empty and wasted. But overall a nice idea and well painted.

I really like this little scene you have done.Very well executed.
(This figure is also part of my grey army. ;) )

Only a little suggestion. The bavarians wore a medium blue tunic not the dark blue like the prussians. (Maybe the pictures above show the blue too dark.)

Hi Steve,
I will consider this for coming projects. I always have my problems with bases that are too narrow. I know these are en vogue on modern exhibitions but in some cases I think it isn't good to pack it all together too much.
A good advice anyway, you never know how it looks if you don't try out. Thanks. :happy: Robert

Hi Christian,
yes, I agree. My blue is a bit too dark.
The box-art on the box of this figure is a very light blue. I googled a lot of pictures of bavarian blue uniforms. Most of them are of a darker blue as the one you posted.
I was inspired by a couple of pictures of a german reenactment group at Augsburg, they wear also a darker version.
But anyway, mine should have been a bit more medium, yes.

Christian and Steve, you were both right. I reworked the figure, gave the uniform a lighter shade of blue and changed the base completely to a smaller one, made from an old limb.

you have changed this little vignette completely! And what a lovely scene it is now!
I admire your courage to make such a change.

PS: Your blue, in my opinion, is perfect (I have bought the new book "Der Deutsch-Französische Krieg 1870/71. Uniformierung und Ausrüstung der deutschen und französischen Armeen. 2 Bände" from Berliner Zinnfiguren, there is an original bavarian uniform shown in "Kornblumenblau".

nice to hear the compliment. Thank You and the others too of course.

I bought the Osprey Men at Arms issue about german armies 1870-71 volume 2, Prussia's allies, a good reference too.

I think sometimes it is necessary to overdo some projects again, I have some busts which already have seen their 2nd and 3rd paintworks.
Skills are improving (hopefully) and most times I am 99 % satisfied with my work, but the goal is to achieve 100 % :D

It looks really good Robert, the change has worked, and the base is now really original and amazing. It's a beautiful scene now, more eloquent in its message and atmosphere. Great (y) !
