Lewis & Clark, Corp of Discovery

That's not the first time I've sold a book only to regret it later. You'd think I'd learn. The C of MH website is real cool. Judging from their plate of the Tennessee Militia, it looks as though the standard type of frontierman garb would be appropriate for Horsebend or New Orleans. Thanks for...

Lewis & Clark, Corp of Discovery

Gary, Joe & John, One more question. You guys area of expertise is the early American stuff, so I'll direct this question to you. Can anyone recommend references for War of 1812 Militia uniforms? I was thinking about depicting a soldier at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend or New Orleans. I sold my...

This is a period about 2000 years beyond my recent area of experience. Can someone recommend a good reference for sculpting this subject?

    Battle for the Hedgerows 1944

Rob, looking forward to seeing the figure take shape. My only words of advice would be to try doing the face yourself. I don't think they are nearly as tricky as they seem. For me, getting the proportions right is a harder task. If you don't like the results, then put on the head of your...

    Hallstatt Prince

Thanks, Guys I had to price it to cover my costs under the assumption that there may not be enough demand for a second batch of castings. As things stand, the initial batch will be only 16 pieces for sale. I'm planning on charging $50 per piece, so that I can cover my costs and pay for another...

    Thanks, John It's a 90mm. Or, 90ish anyway.

    Hallstatt Prince

Guy, Thanks for the interest. You will only be able to get it through me. Basically, it's a garage kit sort of a deal. No fancy packaging, but I will be creating a complete set of painting instructions with plenty of references. Anyone concerned about the quality of the casting should know that...

    Hallstatt Prince

The Hallstatt celt is completed. He is armed with an axe based on pictorial and artifact evidence. His shield is my interpretation of a dished wicker design covered in linen. His shoes have an interesting upturned point and are based on several pictorial examples. All the bronze armor is based...

    planetFigure - Inspirational

This is a good opportunity to do something I should have done a long time ago, and that's thank Gordy and his suppport staff for creating and maintaining this site. I especially like the ease with which we can post our work here. Though I tend to lurk more than post--a good thing given my...

    quick sculpey question

Rob, I wouldn't put it in a pre-heated oven either. If you plan on needing to bake it several times, I'd do them all at the lowest heat setting for just 10-12 minutes at a time. That's still enough to bake it and runs less risk of cracking. Shane

    Padded Jacket In Progress

Anders, These padded Soviet coats are a lot like the medieval gambeson. One technique I found useful for creases on gambesons is to put in the quilting like you've done, but let the putty set up so that it starts to get a little surface hardening, then push it from top or bottom to make the...

    Hallstatt Prince

"It really semas like you have a passion for the subjects which shows in your work." Well, I hope the passion shows in the work. I do have to be real motivated to work on these projects. Usually by the end I'm wiped out. It often helps me if I can visualize the time and place, hence the...

    Hallstatt Prince

There is something I find really interesting about Bronze Age and Iron Age Europe. I guess it’s because I picture it as an idyllic setting very much like a Hudson River School painting–vast expanses of pristine wilderness occasionally dotted with small tribal villages. To a certain degree I...

    Thinning oils

Hey Guys, I'd prefer to not add anything to the paint since that's the way I'm used to painting. I think the real problem may be old paints that are drying out. May be time to by some new stuff. Anybody ever experience this?
