Working on the same figure myself. Always loved it and picked it up recently. Same deal with the horse tail and I'm sculpting new one, also turned the head a bit more forward and filled the gap. Watching your progress with interest.
Plate No. 103 and a couple of others. Waud's sketch is very hard to see and detail but his note about the red blanket with its black stripe is recorded on the back of the sketch. 1st & 2nd RI wore the same uniform. Note the officer in the background of No. 103 - double row of buttons on...
Eduard Perez is one of my favorite sculptors and I believe I have each of his figures he did for FeR. I love the way he handles clothing folds, and his anatomy is spot one.
Nevertheless, after some research and studying photographs of the 2nd Rhode Island I couldn’t resist tweaking this figure...

Second row - colorized Augustus Columbus Thompson Captain 16th Georgia Infantry
Third row - 11th...
I'll say this for sure Malc; you're handling and painting of this figure has persuaded me that I must have one in my collection. 74mm has become my favorite scale and I'm a die-hard civil war fan. Thanks for posting your WIP
Hi Malc,

I must say Malc your 1st Rhode Island is coming along nicely. I wasn't that excited about this figure when it first came out because I hadn't seen an officer wearing this type of sack coat more common with the enlisted soldiers. However after a bit of research I found a couple of officers...
