WIP Critique Jeff Shiu Barbarossa - step 1

Yet these types of discoveries can be the most fun! Yes, difficult to reproduce (I've tried taking notes but get too involved in the process to think to write stuff down) but once you figure something out it's definitely an eureka! moment. Keep up the great work Adrian!

WIP Critique Young Teutonic Knight Bust

Hey Andrew! Looking really really nice so far. That yellow really sets off the flesh tones. I'm not sure if it's the photo or my monitor calibration but I'm starting to get a stronger and stronger purple cast to the skin tone. Mostly in the shaded areas but it seems to be getting stronger as...

    Can we talk about bases?

Hi Mike, Thanks so much for your input on this. You bring up some really good points. And I can so relate to the "people watching" moment! You should see it in a crowded hall with rows and rows of model horses on the tables. Domino effect anyone? I'm glad you mentioned the natural...

    Can we talk about bases?

Thank you John! And thank you very much for the link. I had looked at Thomas bases at least a little. I need to check prices and stuff. Thank you again for all the great information!

    Can we talk about bases?

Thank you Chris! This is fantastic information and along the lines of what I was looking for. hmmm...now, I wonder if the local university would have a woodturning club around... Thank you again! Cheers, Karrie

WIP Critique Jeff Shiu Barbarossa - step 1

Adrian, the flesh tones look great! But the yellows and reds in the background behind him are picking up in the flesh tones too. Do you have something you could throw behind him really quick? I know I do the same thing with my blue paper towels and my workbench shots. I have to make myself...

Completed Critique Chaos Knight 72mm Limited Edition

Finally! The barding is painted! inside, outside, left, right, even upside down a time or two. And I also had the stuff on the shield. WHEW! I'm glad that's done! For some reason, I'm tired now. lol! I'll catch yall tomorrow and hope to get caught up on some threads.

    Can we talk about bases?

I'm going to stick this here because to a certain extent I'm unfamiliar with a lot of basing ideas revolving around wood and plinths, etc. Now, I can take a standard miniature gaming base and deck it out very nicely but I've only done one vignette were I did more with the base but even then...

WIP Critique Marwari Stallion - commission piece equine resin

I hope that's nothing like the "Full Monty" (sorry j/k!) lol! Thank you Adrian. It's very different which is probably why I like it so much. When I get done with him, only the details such as mane, tail, eyes, hooves, markings, etc. will be done in acrylic everything else is pigment. :)...

Completed A few older mini vignettes.

Really cool Mike! I especially like how you've done your dirt and grass terrain, I think it's very well done. I think the Confederate scene is my favorite with the action it portrays and the terrain work. And that little detail called painting....fantastic as well! ;) Cheers, Karrie

Trying to get back to painting

Do you have a favorite sculptor? A certain genre? Or maybe try a genre you've never done before. I think the biggest thing is to find a sculpt you absolutely love - one that screams to be painted. ;) Good luck! Cheers, Karrie

WIP Critique Marwari Stallion - commission piece equine resin

I got more work done on this guy this weekend, it just took me a bit to get pics. He was actually going dark on me so I hit him with a buff color to tone him down. The buff has a lot of white which has a strong blue undertone and that began to give me purple. So, basic color theory, I mixed...

Completed Critique Chaos Knight 72mm Limited Edition

To start, it's a "devil's in the details" type painting. Buckles, rivets, and tiny things. The stuff that drives you batty after awhile...fixed that, fixed this....you know fiddly stuff. Then started the horse's barding. This was suprisingly more difficult. Since it's flatter, it's harder to...

    WIP Critique Pegaso Roaming Knight

Okay this is going to be a bit heavy on the pics but it's a main part of the article I'm going to be writing on this color. This part covers Legs and Hooves. Remember how I said, horses with white legs are never clean. :D Well, we want a way to add depth but just shading gray and going down...

    Completed What is your opinion

Cool site! I bookmarked it too! lol! I just popped in to say I'm still working on your horse picture, Silviu it's taking me longer than I thought it would and I keep getting pulled away from it. But with this site, I'm not sure you need it now. That's a great reference Darko, thank you for...
