    WIP Pueblo Indian - ~90% (?)

Thanks, Ski! You are correct, the pic quality isn't what I'd like. Part of that is messing with lighting, but most of it is using an eight-year-old iPhone 6. oof ... Just for grins, here are two brighter pics. I've done no further work on this bust since I posted the original pictures...

    WIP Pueblo Indian - ~90% (?)

Thanks, Henk! Ok, I've done some more internet-based checking. It appears that 1) leather was frequently dyed; 2) naturally-available materials (ores, plants, tree bark, etc.) were used, and 2) green was one of the colors used. SO - I entertained the idea of taking the shawl to more of an...

    WIP Pueblo Indian - ~90% (?)

COLOR UPDATE: I contacted Jim at Sabot Miniatures, asking about the source info regarding the green "shawl". He advised that the colors on the box art are purely artistic license. Earth tones were the scheme. That said, I've found nothing online to dispute or confirm that color in that...

    WIP Pueblo Indian - ~90% (?)

Thanks, Nap! The eyes need more work, for sure. The beads are definitely due more detailing, too. Not sure what you mean by "redefine the feathers", though. I generally try to reproduce the box art. In this case, the "shawl" is green in the pictures, although my rendition might be a bit too...

Great work! Every time I think I'm almost there, something at this level smacks me and reminds me how far I have to go. ;)

    WIP Pueblo Indian - ~90% (?)

Hey, all - This is my latest (fifth) bust, still in-process. It's the Sabot Miniatures 1/12 scale bust, SMFB005. This one has presented a couple of new-ish challenges, and there are a few areas still to be finalized. I'd appreciate any third-party perspectives on improving my work. Thanks! :)

Andrew and Boondock: Very helpful indeed! Thanks so much!

El Greco/MinorMous Praetorian guard painting ...

Hey, all - I'm eager to start this bust (El Greco SKU: MM-BU04), but for the life of me I can't find any painted examples. Some major areas might be metal or leather, and aside from the obviously metal areas, I really have no idea of colors involved. Thoughts &/or examples would be most...

    Raven Sorcerer ... mostly done

A wise modeler once said something to the effect that a model done pretty well and put on the display shelf is better than a model that sits in a box because it's not perfect. With that sentiment in mind, here's the current state of my Young Miniatures' "Raven Sorcerer". It's advertised as 1/10...

    About that box art ...

@Ferris: I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, just - as a relative newbie to figures and busts - trying to figure out if it's as much a norm as with plane, tank, and car models. Sometimes it's hard to tell what realistic results might look like. Which brings me to another point: As a...

    About that box art ...

I know that some box illustrations are pictures of (un)finished subjects, but how often are they an artist's rendering, i.e. a painting or drawing? In the plastic model world, it's a general maxim that a good picture for the boxart can be a big influence on sales. Some of the figure & bust box...

    Shade vs. shadow ...

Thanks for the info, all! For what it's worth, I've pretty much decided to paint the bust in "true" colors, and have a go at creating the effects I want using glazes. I'll post the results whenever I get done with it. :)

    Shade vs. shadow ...

I'll be especially pleased if it involves me receiving millions of dollars and a tropical getaway property in the Bahamas ... :)

    Shade vs. shadow ...

I don't know how else to put it just now, but my question isn't about painting shadows in folds or creases. It's about contrasting shade and light. I'm about to start the Young Miniatures bust of the "Raven Sorcerer" (YH1862). You'll note from the attached thumbnail that the box art shows the...

Why are cylindrical bases so hard to find?

Or am I just not looking in the right places? I'm trying to locate some simple, cylindrical finished bases for busts - wood and otherwise - but all I can find are cubes or elongated cubes (the proper name escapes me). But I've looked in a few supplier's sites, and I can't find anything like...

Paint question- what are your preferences ?

I personally like acrylics for laying in the base colors (I tend heavily toward Mission Models Paints), then oils for tinting and shading (I like ABT 502 oils). I'll go back to acrylics for fine detailing and where brighter colors are called for.

    Mystery helmet disc

Hey, all - I've got the Young Miniatures 1/10 "US Paratroopers 82nd Airborne" bust. The helmet has a "mystery disc" on the back (pic attached). My oldest son did three years in the 82nd, but he has no idea what it is. Can anyone give me a clue? TIA for any help!

Ronin - 3D Bust - by Hellbender Museum

I, too, would be interested in a larger scale version (1/6 or 1/9).
