Testors Dullcoat works brilliantly when the paint is dry.

I use VMA and VMC because as Einion said the colours vary. The Model Air colours have a lot smaller pigment so look better on 32-54mm mini's but if you work hard with the Model Color, i.e. use lots of thin layers, then the same effects can be done.

Funnily enough this is what I have been doing all evening. Painting the the side of the bristles help and plenty of tonal variations.

I use VMC's all of the time and they do take a couple of coats to get a nice smooth base coat. For a base coat I usually mix a 2 or 3 to one ratio of water to paint. More coats is preferable to thick paint that tends to go glossy. One of the downsides of VMC's id they tend to split when mixed so...
