    I'm ready to get serious...

Thanks guys. Tony, just what I needed to hear. I've been using X-21 as a sheen killer for years, will do with Vallejo. I also have Vallejo's matte medium on hand too, but haven't used it. With model building, the differences in finish aren't a concern because since the whole piece gets a gloss...

    I'm ready to get serious...

I've been painting in some form my entire life, from watercolors and gouche to oils, but until now, any three dimensional human face has only been as an accessory to a military model. I'm armed to the teeth with Vallejo, have a collection of trusty Series Sevens and some Cobra on hand and plan...

Thanks guys, I hope to be more active on the bench and the boards.

Haven't been here for a while.

I'm Jeff from NY. Good to see things are still going on. I've been involved in other projects, sculpting has taken a back seat, but I've been commissioned to do a 1/16 head and it's rekindled my interest. Here's a couple of hours in Aves, need to work on the mouth plus need to start ears and...

    Clear resin...

In my experience it's really hard to get completely bubble free clear resin. I don't mean large bubbles necessarily either, though they do pose an issue, but real small ones that will 'cloud' around the edges. Years ago I used methyl methacrylate in bronze and stone molds for artificial eyes and...

    Dear Santa

Xion has been making a 1/16 RC Ketten for years. It's takes some liberties to fit motors, etc, but otherwise it's a nice kit. I did some quick one off sculpts for it. The driver is articulated to turn with the steering, the panzerschrack fires an IR signal to battle with other tanks.\\

    Using a vacuum chamber.

In regards to plaster, be careful since it contains a fair amount of moisture which will adversely affect the oil in your vacuum pump. Last time I vacuumed plaster, the oil went white and that will be the last time I vacuum plaster. :(

    Airbrush advises

I would think figure painters would want gravity feed, I just bought the HP-AH with that in mind. My siphon fed HP-BC2 is great for medium to large projects, but I need to use a good deal of paint to fill the AB body, siphon tube and color cup just to get a spray. When you're only overspraying a...

    Airbrush advises

I would make sure you were able to try it first with some who has used one. It's hard to tell the condition without examining it and if you've never used one before, even a new one might perform badly in your hands at first, so it's a tough call. You may know if there's a problem with the AB...

    I'm finally doing it.

Thanks Adrian, That's precisely what was happening. I was relying on capillary action with a very thin mix around the edges or between the fingers but was getting hard edges where the paint collected as it dried. Using a gloss clear coat and a surfacant to break the tension is enough to avoid...

    I'm finally doing it.

Thanks Mark, I checked out a few videos and gave it a shot. Pretty straight forward and worked nicely. I used Vallejo's retarder and it blended nicely. I'll get some photos soon.

    I'm finally doing it.

Thanks again for all your help gentlemen. When I apply the acrylic wash, I get a slight hard edge when it dries. I've added some surfacant (Simple green) to water and paint. I wonder if I'd be better off adding the paint to clear satin of matte varnish, just making it a less pigmented paint...

    I'm finally doing it.

One other thing looking at the painting of the scene. I went to great lengths to eliminate the seam in the Monster's hair around the back, but apparently it's supposed to be there...
