    So really I would be better off blending those shadings and highlights to make it more subtle? One of the reasons I painted this was s it is I think something to do with the lighting I found that by not making the highlights and shading too subtle it would have brought out the colours better.

    A question about oil paints

    I find that fresh clean turps is a good way of getting a matt finish but even better is the Hannants Extra color Matt Varnish which does not need thinning and is a super medium. http://www.hannants.co.uk/ Colin

    Painting metals

    Are printers inks a good substitute for painting metal subjects or should I mix colours in oils to replicate metals. I ma now painting a Jousting scene in Flats so need to be really smooth in my painting techniquie. I find Humbrol paints too Gritty. Colin.

    Newbie says hello

    Hi just joined the forum. I am a military modeler of 15 years. used to be in local British Model Soldier Society branch but it and the BMSS in general changed beyond repair so I am now a solo painter modeller and Flat painter. Colin
