    Home Run for Shapeways

A quick wash then a coat of my prep paint. The head was even printed in a separate run from the body and it fit perfectly. There is a slight pattern of printing on the garment, but oddly enough it looks like cloth so I'm going to leave it.

    Stunning Full Colour 3D Printing!

Sorry to all for not having a good sense of humor on this. I'm happy that the other marks were also meant in jest. I also couldn't resist having some of my work printed in color and while it looks passable in photos, it really doesn't look as good up close and personal,,, not at all like...

    Stunning Full Colour 3D Printing!

Gra30,,, I wasn't addressing your comments at all. Take a look at some of the others. Chiding remarks perhaps. In retrospect I should have used the term "some people" instead of everyone so that you would not have felt included. I don't see you as one of the people I mentioned at the end of...

    Stunning Full Colour 3D Printing!

I don't think painters have anything to worry about for a long time yet. First off to get near to photographic quality color images you need at least 32 bits which is something like 16 million colors. This machine is closer to 18 bits (263,000 colors there abouts). Another problem is the texture...

    How I make a 3Dshoe

A few people have asked how I make a 3D shoe. I had some extra time today, so I made one for demonstration purposes. Its not perfect, but it shows the technique I use. There probably is an easier way, but this way works for me.

Thanks Zodiac I made a 10 second video in HD of the sculpt. That way it can be viewed at 360 degrees. I do this now before I start parting the model out because it is easier to look for weak or problem areas.

Here is a progress shot. I'm still working on the hands and the lower medals and the braids, but I worked on some of the suggestions I've gotten and I think I'm getting closer to completing it.

    ABE

Here is a collection of screen captures I made while doing abe. It is very much abridged and sped up but it is still 12 minutes long.

Thanks everyone. I do this a lot; I think I'm done and no sooner have I sent it off to the printers when I realize I missed something. So here it is, I think I'm done,,,, but I'll keep it around for a couple of days before sending it off to be printed so I'm sure I have finished it.

I take that back, it only allows you wall thickness of 1mm or more,,, bummer. But perhaps those printers won't print finer thicknesses than that.

    ABE

BTW, the new meshmixer released in March has a printer setup. They have mostly makerbot and a bunch of Stratasys machines and two type A printers (what ever they are). It is kind of cool because you can see the project as it fits on the print platform. There is even an option to hollow out the...

Aumakua this was done in Sculptris, Mehmixer and Hexagon 2.0. I've never heard of 3D Coat is it free.

I had to take a break from Kalakaua. I was looking at the sculpt and resource images too long and need to come back to it with fresh eyes. I started working on the Abe bust having pretty much abandoned the Indian fighter abe.

    3D works

Actually all animals, especially, lizards, owls, and certain fish and crustaceans. It isn't limited to just one or two because all animals have powers that make them specially suited to survival.

    3D works

What did you read about it? The reason I ask is I am Hawaiian and from childhood that word has been used to refer to a personal or family god, sort of like a guardian creature of nature. I don't know the word in English, but it is the spirit of that creature that watches over you and gives you...

Thanks guys. Colin, you are correct that he has a frontal slope. The shadow of his hair which juts out over his forehead is causing a shadow to fall across his forehead and obscure the view. The next image I will correct the lighting to reveal the slope better.

Over all very good advise. I will be puting it to good use as I refine the sculpt. I'll post some more images of the sculpt after I have executed your suggestions. Here is a pic of him the uniform at an early age. I used this image as well as others for the detail. BTW, no drag and drop here...

Gra30. Thanks for the detail and fair critique. You've given me a lot to work on. It helps to have someone else look. He was acually quite heafty and I have pulled the waist in perhaps more than I should. That's him in the center without the uniform.
