    Lewis and Clark vignette

I am starting this vignette of Lewis and Clark. I am using the figures by La Meridiana. I plan to place them on a base at elevated heights. Sacagawea will be at the top pointing the way. My friend who saw the concept says I should name the vignette, "Starbucks is right over that hill." I decided...

Atlanta Military Figure Show February 19th 2016

Hope to see some PF members at the show. This year, painters can have a one on one with Atlanta Grand Masters to critique their work. Its a great opportunity, but you must reserve time in advance of the show. Also, the deadline for reserving a spot to have your worked critiqued by one of the...

    Historex General Junot

Finally finished this Historex figure of General Junot, Colonel General of Hussars, 1813. It is painted in acrylics (mostly Vallejo) except for the horse which was painted in oils. Junot's head was sculpted by my friend, and the collar and hands I made from green stuff. The horsefly strings are...

    Death Dealer flat #3

This is the third time I have painted this flat. I really enjoyed it every time, as it is of one of my favorite paintings. It is painted entirely in acrylics and I used a wet palate. I like using the wet palate when painting flats because I can quickly mix colors for shading and highlighting. Pete

    Rainy Mountain Charlie

This is the re-issued bust from Lamb and Flag miniatures. It is resin with metal parts. I don't think the hat fits as well as the original Poste Militiare casting, but close enough. This is my second attempt at painting Rainy Mountain Charlie, and both times it has been a real pleasure. This and...

    Dragoon Sappeur

I really like this uniform of a Dragoon Sappeur. Is it realistic? It is very fancy with all the lace. I am thinking about creating a Historex figure in this uniform. From this book: Thanks, Pete

Creating woodland or forest groundwork Part 5

This is the final part. With the rocks and tree completed, now it’s time to coat the rest of the floral foam with celluclay. Mix up a batch of Celluclay paste using a little water, some matte medium and an earth color acrylic paint. Thoroughly mix this paste until there isn’t any white...

Creating woodland or forest groundwork Part 4

Now its time to make the tree. Begin by giving the Bayardi tree trunk a coat of primer. When the primer is dry, paint the tree with an acrylic paint using a color that is close to the color of the type of tree you want to represent. Most trees are a brownish gray color. Look at real trees, or...

Creating woodland or forest groundwork Part 3

Now it’s time to make rocks. What kind of rocks are you going to make? Google rock images and have an idea of what your rocks look like in real life. Take equal parts of the pool putty and knead them together until it is thoroughly mixed. Make little blobs the approximate size of the rocks you...

Creating woodland or forest groundwork Part 1

This is an SBS on how to create groundwork simulating woods or forest using the techniques of John Long. I have always felt that adding good groundwork to a figure does much to enhance the visual appearance of the display and help tell a story. Good groundwork can go far in painting the whole...

Help on Wuttemburg Chasseurs 'a Cheval

I can find very little information on the Wuttemburg Chasseurs a Cheval. I have this picture and would like to make a figure of him. I am interested in additional information on the uniform, and on the unit. When and where did it serve. What battles did they participate in. What reference books...

    Mountainman

This is a Romeo Models 54mm Mountain Man figure. Painted in acrylics. I attended a groundwork workshop at the last Atlanta show given by John Long. The groundwork for this figure was completed in the 1 1/2 day workshop. I think it came out very nice. I think I have problems uploading the thumbnails.
