As a very spasmodic figure painter (20 completed in 52 years :depressed:), plus several that have been through the Dettol bath, and await my less than deft hand, I am seeking advice from those who are more experienced in the hobby.
Of late I am making a greater effort (actually completed 4 in...
I was wondering if one can successfully apply Humbrol enamel over oil? My reason for asking is that I lay down a base coat of enamel to block in the colours, and then paint over with oils. While I am able to lift off any oil from areas it shouldn't be with thinners, sometimes I miss a few spots...

I ordered the resin version of the Saxon Cuirassier officer from Chronos https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/news-september-2021-chronos-miniatures-chm-54256-54256-m.370488/. I asked if could they provide a metal sword rather than the resin as I thought it was liable to breaking. Dmitry said...
These links show a variety of reproduction uniforms in remarkable details from both sides. What they show are the variety of shades of blue and grey, the equipment worn, and weapons carried. To my mind they are excellent references and answer the oft asked question of 'What is the correct shade...
Good Evening,
Having just purchased a copy of AK Interactive's FAQ book by Kirill Kanaev, has anyone used Mike Blank's Colour Harmony? If so, how did you find it in regards to providing advice to his techniques?
I like the style of his work, and am considering purchasing a copy, but I am not...
In August I ordered several wood bases from this company but due to restrictions on flights into Australia they were delayed. Vyacheslav kept them safe until mail to Australia opened in Russia, and then kept me informed of their progress along the way via email. They arrived today and the...

We know that there are two ways of indicating the size of a figure or accessories: either as a fraction (1/35th, 1/20th, 1/6th, 1/15t, 1/72nd etc) or in mm.
Does anyone know of or could we write up a conversion chart listing the fraction and its equivalent in mm? It would make it much easier...
Given the outstanding quality of painting by many PF members, I have been reluctant to post what few pieces I have done. So here goes with one I painted to give a mate for his 70th birthday a few years ago. Not the best effort, as I can see I needed to do more work on the highlights and shadows...
This documentary video shows in snatches the Smithsonian's collection of Union enlisted men's sealed pattern uniforms and headdress worn during the ACW. The collection shows samples approved by Union inspectors and which were housed in the Meigs Museum created in 1865, and handed to the...
Major General Gustav Baron von Berg, the grand great uncle of a friend of mine. Any one know of a model with this uniform (double breasted) that I can use to paint a figure of von Berg? My sculpting skills are terrible.

According to the author this book "aims to describe briefly the histories of the various infantry formations of the Imperial Guard and to provide a detailed...
Why is it that we see a never ending production of models of Grenadiers au pied of Napoleon's Imperial Guard and very rarely any of the Chasseurs au pied? Both regiments were of the Old Guard and both saw equal action. Just interested to know why the emphasis on one and not the other.

Hi All,
What groundwork grasses do people use, and where do you buy them from?
I used bits of the old hay bale binder twine, but now plastic is used to make the twine the old fibre type, which cut to different lengths made a good longish grass, is no longer available.
Regards
Chris
