Latest project just finished; I call it “Lament”, a Piper of the Highland Light Infantry of Canada, July 8, 1944. It’s a 75 mm figure from Wee Friends painted in oils over acrylics. I added the HLI shoulder flashes and composed the groundwork to suggest the ruins of the Norman village of Buron which the HLI attacked in their first action, a day-long battle with the 25th Panzergrenadier Rgt. of the notorious 12 SS Hitlerjugend Division. Casualties were heavy among the 4 attacking companies, hence the piper’s lament. The HLI was raised in my home county of Waterloo, Ontario and still has its home there in our local armoury.

Very nicely done. Our Canadian cousins often get forgotten despite their contribution to the Battle of the Atlantic and on their beach on D-Day, not to mention all their other contributions.

Hi Brian

Great to see you posting and such a detailed paint, like the uniform colour and the tartan is amazing in this scale

Thanks Mike - much appreciated. While on a recent trip to Normandy, it was also poignant to get that acknowledgement from many French citizens when they found out we were Canadians, especially in some of the small towns like Buron.
