Finished images of the Fantasy Witch Bust I was working on last year. My first attempt at OSL with the rear cast from the candles, still a long way to go with that technique.
Yes excellent Rob. Love it. Thought about buying this in the past. Great sculpt.
Fantastic work.
Colour choice on the dress works very well mate.
Even looks great from the back. OSL is very nice. Caught that horn at the back just perfect.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words.
I am in two minds about her, overall I am really happy with the painting as viewed from the front but I really struggled with the back and the OSL (which I now regret trying). It is a far better model than I have been able to show.
I could not reconcile how she could be lit from the front enough to see the detail and colours without totally negating any glow given off by the candles, which would be a much weaker light source.
In hindsight I think a better OSL approach would be to do her fully in muted light, frontally is if from a low fire or lamp so red/orange uplighting and the candlelight backfilling from behind. But my skills are nowhere near pulling something like that off.
Wow Rob she has come out beautifully, don't be so hard on yourself about the OSL, it's a difficult enough to.portray effect with one light source let alone all those candles and back lit to boot. She has a real presence and radiates a suitable dark aura, love it.
All credit to you for completing this , very dramatic piece , frightening as well , like the colour palette, the painting overall works well , as for OSL ...difficult to do , a learning curve ...so look forward to seeing more the next
Cheers guys, I think OSL, like NMM is something I will add to my "only if I really have to" list. If a figure absolutely requires it I will have a go but it is not something I feel comfortable with and at this stage of life not something I can be bothered to try and learn.
Go for it, Fantasy or "Histo-Fantasy" subjects are huge fun to do and, along with sci-fi are the growth area of the hobby at the moment. Releases of these subjects outweigh new historical pieces by 50 or 60 to 1, and even more so in the 3D printed field.
