hi,
i am about to start my alpine 1/16 ww2 sas commando, and i am not too sure what colours to use for the camo or leather overcoat. does anybody have any suggestions in what colours to use and what type paint is reasonable for this job.

andrew

It's a Denison smock Andrew, and there's a fair bit of leeway for the colouring. http://www.kamouflage.net/camouflage/00073.php
I use Vallejo acrylics, so I'd use Green Ochre base, chocolate with a touch of red for the brown, and Olive Green. I then give everything a controlled wash of a beige/buff colour to unify everything. For leather I use German camo orange for the base, then build up layers of fairly transparent browns. Darker in the creases, less on the highs, letting the orange show through.
Hope that helps mate,

ok. thank you very much. i knew what the smock was called, but had a blank when writing the post. thank you for all of the colours, i really appreciate it. what type browns should i use?

cool. i think i may go with some oils, so i can make it blend a little bit more with the leather. but the camo i will keep acrylic.

bear in mind though that the yellow in the denison smock was considerably darker than the reproduction model shown in the link above would have been.

i would suggest a dark green wash over a browned-out yellow to achieve the right sort of colour as seen in this image

dont forget also, in WWII the SAS wore red berets!

The link was to the fabric swatch, not the re-pro.
You're certainly very knowledgeable Tam.

im a bit of a military history buff.

I did a military history degree with the intention of working at sandhurst or the like teaching military history, but i wasn't always the fine, upstanding, pillar of the community i am now im afraid, and that went against me, so no job at sandhurst for swifty :/

so I'm thinking of an olive green with a yellow (what is they appropriate type) and a chocolate brown as suggested before by carl. all blended with a beige or buff wash. for the leather smock i will use a brick and primer red, wash brown, light and dark rust, shadow brown from mig abteilung 502 oils. the face i will use some oils, not too sure what colors yet (suggestions?). for the red beret i will use the andrea red set as i used this for my dirty harry figure and it worked very well. is this is what is needed?

sounds as if you have it just about covered. It would be really cool if you could post some updates after its finished so we can see how you got along?

ill post some progress photos at each stage so i can get directions and some suggestions from you guys.
