Attempting to paint an 15th AAF sholder Patch on the 120mm Verlinden pilot figure, in acrylics. Even with my 7x optivisor, the detail I've done just ain't cutting it (seen too many of the St Petersburg 54mm figures, and am ashamed I can't paint a patch twice the size...) using series 7 brushes, great paint and drew in 0.3 mm pencil the design. Now what? Next to making my own decals, I'm stymied.

I think I would print them onto paper, seal them and glue them on.Most patches are raised a bit, and the thickness of the paper would replicate that pretty well. Decals would be too thin by themselves. Use a glossy paper then seal it with something like the flat spray that comes with the Testors decal making kit. I have a feeling that its just their Flat Cote in a different spray can. Smells the same. Many figures have patches, flags, etc sculpted as part of the figure and are WAY too pronounced, the thickness of heavier glossy paper should be just about right. Of course this would only work if the surface was basically smooth and not real wrinkled.
