Dear All,

I am planning a large vignette of the Light Cavalry attack the using old Roll Call and Victory Miniatures figures and cannon.
I would appreciate information about the following issues:

- availability of Russian troops (of any kind). For the time being, I am considering the conversion of a Roll Call private of the Gandamak vignette. Any suggestion is welcome: I just need a standing figure to face the 11th Hussar and Lancer.
- info about books, pictures or painting of the Russian troops.
- picture, drawings... of the Russian cannons present during the charge. Keith, from Victory was very helpful selling me a British cannon. but I have no clue about how to adapt it.

It's funny there has not been availability along these past years of such Russian figures or cannons to build a diorama of Balaclava.
Strange...

Anyway, thank you for your support.
Having two mounted figures, a cannon + two started projects + a 1 year baby getting all the viruses at the Kindergarten + a too demanding job... I'm not on a hurry. I estimate 2020 as possible completion date  .

Kind regards,

Iñaki

Victory can let you have a cannon wheel from the 9lb British Napoleonic cannon or the cannon itself.

Mike

Thanks!
I already got the cannon: Keith helped a lot.
However, I don't know which modifications should be done (for instance, obvioulsy and regrettably, the British "shields" should be sanded).
I have no information about the Russian cannons.
The main request is if someone knows about suitable figures that could work as Russians...
Thank you, All!

I considered something similar in 120mm but got stuck over the same issue_there shouldn't be a problem with the cannon bar a few modifications i.e. addition of lifting handles etc. otherwise the similarities to Napoleonic field guns are close enough. I considered modifying WWII great-coated German/Russian figures which I'm sure could be done but equally sure I couldn't do it.Problems being that the Russian Crimean coats are single-breasted with one or both cross-belts while WWII ones aren't!
You could use 1/16 cossack heads with fur caps or modify WWI German heads wearing feldmutze (JohnSmithModellbau).
Presume you have Victory's 11th Hussar attacking the gunners.I'd be interested in your thoughts about it.
Good luck
Jon

Hi, Jon!
For the time being, I believe that the most suitable "Russian" is a Private from Gandamak. I have, however, the disadvantage of the great coat shoulders modification. Let's wait and see... it's a long way until the last figure will be needed ;)
I am not using the Victory's 11th Hussar, at least totally. I have the former Roll Call 11th Hussar (quite similar, in fact), the 17th Lancer (on foot) and I got crazy looking for the old mounted 17th Lancer. I gave up two weeks ago, when I found a kit at eBay offering just the head, arms, ancilleries like the sword, reins, lance... and I decided ordering the Victory's Hussar horse to have our remade Lancer mounted. If we add the Victory's cannon, I think there's enough material to build up the diorama.
I wish there were wooden fences available somewhere. and obviously some Russian "victims".
Not in a hurry... perhaps Moz will surprise us tomorrow with a new 1854 Russian figure. there are many interesting uniform at the Czar's army, so it could be a nice topic. I guess many of us would like to build something like this, so commercially interesting as well. In fact, they wore nice helmets at that time.
Cheers,

Iñaki
