Here is the pistol I think I am using for the Civil War Petty Officer.
The orignal sketch ahd a shoudler stocked 1851 Colt Navy Revolver ( still on workbench) but I happened on this really unusual Savage 1861 .36 Na vy with a strange looking trigger guard housing-both the trigger and a cocking ring. Figure I had to give it a try...
Scaled it out and made photo copies of pistol in the correct scale and length. Using the picture as a template mounted on plastic stock with Spray adhesive, I cut out the first of three peices to be sandwiched togehter.
Next I sketched in the trigeer guard and cocking ring
Here are two templates glued together.
Here are all three pieces glued togehter and I have begun the shaping process with Exacto knife and micro-files
Final shaping and adding an Aluminum Cylnder
Now a litle black paint and dry brushing of steel...
Now I can refine it and do a final paint job before slipping into the hand of my Petty Officer.
