Hello all -- I wanted to give you an early head's up on the Military Miniature Society of Illinois' 35th annual Chicago Show, since the group has some extra special treats in store to celebrate this milestone anniversary.

If you are on the fence about attending (maybe still recovering from Gettysburg?), in addition to all of the usual things that make the MMSI show great -- some of the finest artists from across the U.S. and around the world, with first-rate judging under the open system, a great vendor and flea market area and of course the world-famous Chicago Hospitality Suite -- to honor this anniversary, every exhibitor this year will receive a specially commissioned original figure sculpted by club member Joe Berton and cast in white metal. It depicts the 23-year-old Abraham Lincoln during his service as a captain in the 31st Regiment of the Illinois Militia during the Blackhawk War. (In addition to being MMSI's 35th anniversary, this year is the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth.)

In other 2009 show news, Dave Peschke is donating the painted figure for the raffle; the auction is shaping up to be something great; we'll have two seminars -- Kreston Peckham on "wedgie" vignettes and Stephen Mallia coming all the way from Malta -- and Shep Paine has been organizing a special anniversary treat to take place before the Awards Ceremony and dinner on Saturday night. (It could be something you've gotta hear to believe.)
The complete schedule is online at www.MMSIChicago.com. The show takes place once again at the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg, with a specially priced room rate of $92; be sure to mention MMSI when making a reservation by phone or online at (847) 240-0100 or
