3rd Army info ?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to help out a friend of mine run down some info on her father.
She knows he was in the 3rd Army, had a part in the Battle of the Bulge, was a major and in the command staff of one of the armored divisions. He was also a member of the 40 & 8's after the war. (I know there were several divisions in the 3rd and this is no small task).
Thats about all she knows. Evidently her dad wasn't too talkative about his service and died with little oral history of his time in theater. Any idea where I could go fishing with his name to find out some more info? Veterans Administration? 3rd Army Veterans groups? etc...

If she wants/needs his service records, she needs to write to the National Personnal Records Center in St. Louis (see below)

She can also contact the 3rd Army all military organizations have an historian and archivist.

Thanks guys. She's given me his enlistment #, d.o.b. and some other personal info so that at least gives me some more to go on. I appreciate the leads. I love the hunt.

Mike, go to www.usmilitariaforum.com and ask the question there. There are guys there with excellent connections and will steer you on the right path.

Unfortunately a fire devastated a lot of the records that were kept in the St.. Louis facility some time back. Hopefully you can find out what you need though!
