Hi

I want to apply a 5 o'clock shadow to a 1/9 Bust over oils.

Whats the best colour to use and way to apply, stipple or wash?

I was considering stippling sepia but would appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers

Neil

I personally always stipple a '5 o'clock' shadow with oils. As far as a suitable colour is concerned, I would agree with Carl, a hint of blue or cold grey with flesh mid-tone, usually works well.
Do a google search (images) for five o'clock shadow, this will give you ideas for different shades, based on hair/skin colour.

For me I use watersoluable Artisan Paynes Gray (W & N) ...easy to overdo the effect though ...as I recently found out resulting in a bust being totally cleaned off !!

Good ida of Don's to google images .

Do share the results

minute dots of Prussian blue then stipple, less is always more,if need be add more if needed

Thanks all

Some great advice, just got to decide which method to try first, its a dirty sun bleached straw blonde hair colour so may try the stippled Paynes.

By the way John love the bust in your Avatar!

Like the others I use a dab of Paynes grey in the flesh mix although for a really heavy dark haired stubble a touch of blue as well
