Thought i would share my latest work to get some input and advice to see where i can improve. This is the 3rd figure i have sculpted in 54mm after sculpting for about a year now,i have done several 120mm figures also. All sculpted with Magic Sculpt and a bit of greenstuff for fine detail.

All comments welcome.

I think the detail work is pretty good. The thing that you need to work on is the anatomy.

The shoulders are way too wide, almost 1/3rd the width too wide. Also, the head is too big and the arms are too long.

Get a good anatomy chart, a book or two on the subject and I think you will be well on your way.

Your work is very clean and neat, which is a good thing to be able to accomplish. Keep it up!

@Vergilius..thanks for the comments, the legs are ok its the picture distorting the figure.

@Anders..I have worked from an anatomy chart and everything falls in place well when compared to the chart, the figure is represented as being wide at the shoulder as he has put on a tunic from a redcoat fusilier,it is to give the impression that the tunic is not tailored to fit the indian.Hope this makes sense as it is not a excuse for bad work.I have a major problem with photographing my figures, the problem is when i look at the pics everything looks distorted in scale,my figures come out looking short and stumpy when there not in the flesh.Any ideas as to what i am doing wrong.
As i say i am not trying to make a cover up of bad work because i am always willing to correct something if it is wrong and i appreciate your input and knowledge on the subject.

Hola Steve,

While the idea that the coat is too wide for the indian is applicable in theory, it seldom looks good in miniature. In this case is looks like there are two different scales, one for torso and head and another for the legs.

If you need a different chart let me know, I can send you some that are really good.

The knuckles should be in line with his manhood more or less, they are about in the center of the thighs instead, quite a bit too long.

The key to a good figure is good anatomy, work from the chart and take mesurements etc. to get the best possible results.

Anders i would appreciate your offer of anatomy charts, the one i am using is 8 head figure and not sure if it is what i should be going by.Thanks for the pointers you have given i am already onto the next 2 figures and will give more work to this area, try to avoid the orangutan arms look next time.

thanks,

steve
