This is all but finished, El Viejo Dragon bust Julian Augustus

The base will be painted satin black.

This is a better picture that was taken at our club night.

Comments welcome as always!

I was told by a shop owner who specializes in figures that he felt the bust lacked impact, the jewels looked painted, on reflection they do, so I may well do them again. Thought I'd repaint chrome silver and then paint over clear red, green and blue (an old trick from my car painting days to paint indicators and brake lights), he also felt the cape lacked authenticity. Did comment that it was neatly painted and that in time I had the makings of a talented figure painter.

I guess having been at the top of my game for cars (Trophey, gold medal winner etc.) the learning curve for figures is like startting all over again.

Have now statred work on my 8th figure a 180mm Le Crimier French Hussar.

Thanks as always for looking and your constructive critic.

Hello Tim, for a 'novice' you've picked up figure painting quite well from where I'm sitting!

As you say, there's lots that modellers can learn from those in other disciplines.

For a relative beginner, you have appeared to have gotten the hang of skin tones, and something else that well practised painters struggle on - the eyes. These ones look convincing in this picture. Keep it up mate. However I reckon an 180mm figure is quite intimidating....good luck with it ;)

Blind Pew.

thanks for the comments I do very much enjoy the figures, so cars have gone on the back burner!

Thanks for your input on my post in the general section about the Le Cimier figure, you might like to know that the sculptor actally sent me some PM, which were inspiring and made me determined to do a good job.

Tim, that shop owner sort of sounds like Simon Cowel (sp?) to me. You probably know who he is, but in case not, he is the head critic on the American hit "American Idol," based on your "Popstar" program. In other words, I think he's being a tad critical. I think you've done quite a nice job. Perhaps a coat of Tamiya "Smoke" over the metals might give it more of the realistic feel you are striving for. But that's a minor point. Overall, this is fantastic!

Cheers mate, :)

Kyle
