Completed work on this terrific bust from FeR Miniatures. I toned down the bold colors in the tartan with a very thin veil of a pale gray green. This toned down the brightness and pulled it all together.

Many thanks for all the kind words, Mobo, gazer, Pete, Neal, Ken and Bob. This is the first bust from FeR Miniatures that I’ve painted, but hopefully it won’t be the last.

Fantastic finish to this one Kurt. The veil wash over the tartan has worked a treat.

Neal

Thanks, Neal,

I’d used that technique in the past on modern camouflage uniforms, and was pleased with how it worked here. The paint was thinned to the point of being nearly transparent, but a couple of coats did the job very effectively, I think. I’d recommend trying this approach, to anyone painting a pattern that turns out a bit bolder than they had intended.
