Lately I tasted blood in doing miniature exchanges with friends of mine. As I have really enjoyed painting a miniature for an exchange there has to be something special for the next one. So will follow a very special one with my buddy Kyle, well known as Mr. Lee. If you yet do not know this globetrotter I recomm end to jump over to his blog and read about his "Year of the Traveling Brush".

We are not just painting "any" miniature. We decided to paint a bust that serves both of our preferences and also is covering a lot of different surfaces to force and compete against each other.

You all might think it is easy to pick a bust to paint as there is a wide variety of possibilities, but it's not! We can compare this with the situation one have in a not so good restaurant with a cart containing way too many meals to choose from. You simply can't decide.

Our choice fell to the Viking bust, sculpted by Roberto Chaudon. Roberto is a talented sculptor who is offering a lot of great busts with a sometimes very special character (theme-wise, not sculpting wise). Recently Roberto has sculpted a lot for Mierce Miniatures, I am sure you have seen at least one of his sculpts, even if you didn't knew it was made by his hands.

As mentioned above we have a lot of different surfaces to paint, practice and compete on this bust: Skin, Hair, Leather, Metals, clothes, wood, fur, even a freehand on the shield.... as you can see: All one need to master someday.

On Planetfigure I have found a nice review of this bust that shows all these great details with high resolution pics. For the helmet there are 2 different options that gives the possibility for small customization.

For me it's the first bust in this scale. So another task to improve my skills and painting experiences. You might remember that I am always looking for these tasks to force myself (I stated this in one of the posts of my introduction). I am really looking forward to paint it very soon!

Even if I do not own this bust yet I had some kind of battle plan in mind when it comes to painting.

Let's see how this will look like in the end... in the meantime I am gathering inspiration from painted versions, viking pictures and more.

Cheers
Arne

Thank you Ron, it's always inspiring to see other peoples attend on the same model.

Yesterday I was able to add first colors to the bust. Nothing fancy yet, but you'll get a feeling for the direction I am going to:
