Hello everyone on the planet. I m an oil painter using oils over acrylics but i always liked the matt finish and drying speed of acrylics. So lately i ve been trying to paint completely with this medium. I used to work with a mix of andrea and vallejo acrylics wich seemed to give me the right results. But recently run out so i ve purchased the new formula based andrea colours and i ve noticed that they tend to be a bit more glossy than the original ones that where dead matt, more like vallejo colours. So now i m back where i begun with the oils. No matter what medium i use a get a bit shine at the end of the painting especially with dark colors. This is good when i m treating leather parts but not so when i m painting clothes. So my question is, is there a brand of acrylics or a medium to mix with vallejo to make them dead matt?

One option is to avoid any of the Andrea paints that don't dry matt.

If you want to go with something mixed into the paint and you have a stockist of Tamiya locally they make a matting agent (X-21, Flat Base) that when mixed into other paints will help them to dry reliably matt.

There are a number of good flat varnishes/overcoats available too, one of the most used and reliable is Dullcote from Testors. But most of these work best when airbrushed on in case that's an issue. In addition to the commercial products X-21 and Future/Klear can be mixed to make a matt overcoat:
1 part flat base to 3 parts Future = very flat
1 part flat base to 10 parts Future = flat
1 part flat base to 15 parts Future = satin

Eninon thank you for your reply. I have the dullcoat that you mentioned and used in couple of figures both with an airbrush as well as thin layers with a brush. The problem with the airbrush is that i cant contol it over small areas of skin or leather where the oil satin finish is desirable so i guess the tamiya solution seems more ideal to me. Is there a mixing ratio for that medium or its more of a trial-error thing to get the desirable result?

Yes unfortunately. I'd definitely recommend trying only a little to begin with (less than 10%) as it's very powerful and too much can easily lead to a chalky white residue in places, especially with heavily-thinned paint.

Another option I think is well worth considering is to Dullcote the entire figure and then add gloss when you want, with thin coats of a glossy medium. I do this if I'm painting entirely using my Jo Sonja paints which are very uniformly matt but I've done it a little for many years where artists' acrylics aren't glossy enough to represent sweaty skin, polished leather etc.
