Afrika Corps tank commander uniform question

Hi Guys
Did tank comanders wear the black leather jerkins in the desert theater of operations or did they have a tan variation , was just thinking they might have taken the black leather jackets with them, any feed back would be great .

Good question. i'm not sure but I cannot recall seeing pictures of Germans in Africa in the black uniform. I think the common tank uniform was a special tropical one, consisting of tan shorts and tan or greenish jacket, cut like any ordinary soldier's one.

Hello I looked through my Shiffer book on DAK uniforms and can find no photos or reference to leather jackets being used. Greatcoats yes. Hth. Cheers, Brock
