A Fixture
Finished this terrific figure sculpted by Nello Rivieccio for Alexandros Models.
If you know me you will agree that this falls firmly outside my normal period(s) of interest. But I couldn’t help getting one. The stance and relaxed but arrogant attitude is perfect. And there’s an opportunity to have a go at multiple textures (armour, leather, silk, velvet etc.). Plus it’s pre-uniform so one can do whatever in terms of colours. I mostly stayed close to the box art, which is in turn based on a period print.
I also like the mix of ruffles, lace, velvet, armour and leather. A transitional period of military costume when practicality and adornment co-existed, at least among senior officers. A non-military fashion friend asked me why he was wearing a coffee filter around his neck.
I also extended the cast cobblestone groundwork to the base edges with Magic Sculpt.
Acrylic, ink and gouache.
I may have to acquire Alexandros’ Gustavus Adolphus figure to display next to this fellow.
