O.K., this goes out to all the guys that use oil paints to paint their figures. What colors do you use to highlight and shadow German Field Gray and British Khaki?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Ben

Ben, it might be helpful to list the mixes you used to achieve the grey and khaki. That way the suggestions won't mess up your hues.

Hey ,
When im gonna paint german field gray I mix, Prusian blue and Ochre Yellow, for the shadows more blue or diferents blues in fact and for the lights more yellow with titanium white.

hope it helps

Ben, I've come up with a field gray mix that I'm most pleased with.
BASE: W&N Prussian Green
Raw Umber
Titanium White
Windsor Blue (just the slightest amount)
SHADOW: W&N Mars Black
Prussian Green
HIGHLIGHT: Naples yellow progressively lightened with white.

I'm able to achieve a medium shadow/highlight to my base color by varying the amount of white to my base mixture. I find myself adding the final highlights days after the all of the colors have been laid in anyhow. I'm working on a Stalingrad vignette at the moment and will post some pics of the in progress figures and my variotion of field gray. HTH.

Here's a mix I came up with a little while ago that I liked.
Naples Yellow plus Mars Black to suit for the color you want.
Then shadow with more Mars Black and highlight with more Naples Yellow.
I used it on the jacket on this German...
