hello
lovely painting as setting.hmmmmmmmmm hope you allow me some comments?i think the layout of the helmet and weapon looks more WW2 like.normaly the warriors where buried or cremated with full weapons underearth-even in etruscian time.where the had even death houses socalled tumuli..this open lying treasures like helmet and sword would have dragged thiefs like honey the flies.
even in alamanic gravefield of 300-600 AD the rich tombs showed signs of ancient robbery.iron hooks where left in the graves used to break open wooden timber ceilings of the gravechambers and to fiddle out the valuables.often only some weeks after the final gravelaying.one thinks that often even relatives could not bare the thought that so many valubale things where lost that they broke in the graves of their relatives.an helmet and sword of this type was in relation to today worth an high class car.so it would have been stolen instantly.
this beside its an very nice setting.hope you do not mind this.
i want not sound nosy or critic an impressive work.i like it.(y)
cheers

Markus, thank you for kind words and this historical excursion!

I want to represent not grave goods, but votives - the spoils of different wars on the tumulus of chieftain-hero(helmets, axes, spears). One helmet is crushed, axe covered with patina. Oinochoe maybe was derived by the warrior now(it is bright and new) - to make libation.
However, you`re quite right, this is deviation from historical accuracy, because these valuable things immediatly were stolen.

Regards,
Anton

hello
i see i folowed the titel ancestors tomb.well this things where done in celtic time as in greece in olympia in the differnt treasurehouses.in Manching germany near munich such an celtic Oppidium or holy treasure site was unerthed.
here weapon trohys where laid done ect.but i think those holy places where surely guarded by an priesthood and their staff and so one can think the items where quite safe.
it surely an side efefct the idea of theft why celts did demolish weapons before they where deposited in garves, benath the wish that they should not be used by the deads against still livings.
as i said lovely setting.the stone ideol is nice as the shields rendering and rest.its splendid-why not an guarded area.makes then sense at all.
cheers

Markus, I`m glad to talk with a man, who are interested in ancient history seriosly. :)
It`s widespread tradition - depository for votives near temples and in open-air holy places (in the mountaines of Crimea, - on the Gurzuf Sedlo pass open-air sanctuary).

Regards,
Anton
