Hi all,

Can anyone direct me to wear I can find ancient Norman clothing at around the time of the battle of Hasting? I am painting the 90mm Norman knight from the Pegaso range.

Thank you one and all.

If you're looking for book references Osprey have at least a couple of titles that touch on the Normans, including The Normans in the Elite series (a Nicole/McBride title) and another in the Warrior series illustrated by Christa Hook.

If you want online info then Google should always be your first port of call when looking for references on the web. Just do a search for Norman, plus maybe hauberk, gambeson that sort of thing, and you're sure to find more than enough. I know there are a number of reenactment groups in the UK that are based around the right era, even if they're not specifically Norman they will give you a good idea of the right 'look' for various items.

When I do a google search, I always click on "Images" and it will also give you any pics of Normans too.

Hi Donald,

One of Pegaso's all-time best offerings!

The subject matter actually post-dates Hastings by over a century--it's more of a "crusader" than a "Conquest" Norman.

In any event, if you want to get an idea of Hastings' period costume, just search for "Bayeux Tapestry" on your favorite search engine--there are several excellent on-line resources with a detailed presentation of the work. . . all 200+ ft. of it!

HTH!
